In this lesson, students will explore social relationships both in their own
culture and the target culture. To help us focus on social relationships, we will look at the
way people interact, talk to each other, and spend time together in community celebrations
and events. Students will see the basic linguistic differences in the two languages, but
explore the syntax to a new level, as a definition to cultural identity in society. As the class
continues to find distinctions between the two cultures, we will explore our cultural and
linguistic identity and how those affect our daily lives and how they help define our
relationships with others. The lesson would span several days, as students range from basic
comparisons and dive into deeper contexts as we read more articles and use observational
skills to define relationships between people.
