Dog and Daffodil Debate – what makes great art ?

    1. Using local urban art projects, students will go to three utility boxes that were contracted by the city. Students will review the requirements requested by the city, then in situ, students will closely examine and then critique the three boxes.

    2. Discussion in class will be which box was more successful for the city? The artists? Or community. Anecdotal evidence will be presented for the discussion by the students.

    3. Historical context of the Impressionists, Picasso, and Surrealists presented. These artists and movements were considered unsuccessful at one time and now are revered in the art world. Taking this into consideration and the previous discussion, which utility box will be considered more successful over time? How do the students predict this?
